Kirby Canyon Discovery
1 May 2008
Working my way down this arroyo, following the sound of trickling water.
The source was a limestone ledge.
Over time, a small cavern had formed. Stalagtites hung from its ceiling.
Several limestone "straws" dripped water.
Fascinated, I decided to see if I could catch a drip in mid-air.
Due to its size, broad surface, I focusd on the center stalactite.
Barely caught this drip, very difficult due to the
palm-sized camera I was using.
After several tries, finally succeeded.
Closer look at the largest stalactite.
Its surface liquid too fragile to touch.
Cavern is in a rugged area, completely screened from view.
