Gopher Snake

This had to be one of the strangest snake behaviors I'd ever witnessed.
Snakes don't dig holes. They follow existing gopher, squirrel,
and mole tunnels when hunting prey.

As soon as it saw me, this very large gopher snake
instantly reversed direction and disappeared back down the hole.
I took photos of the snake's sudden reversal, but during review,
failed to see WHAT was being photographed, so I started deleting the images!
I baredly stopped in time to save the above shot.
