October's Bright Blue Weather
Towards Evening
October 2023
An wand of Pyracantha reaching across the pathway.
This shrub often mistaken for our native Bigberry Manzanita.
Late afternoon sun sparkling on creek water.
Picking the right place to release an adult mantid.
Found in my Nectar Garden soaking wet and unable to fly
Also found what appears to be a mortar stone. Yes, it spoke to me.
I ran my fingers across its surface, but didn't detect another's hand.
Nearby, noticed a tiny western fence lizard basking on a rock.
Overhead, a pair of gray squirrels chased each other through the branches.
Action very fast, hard to capture with my camera settings.
Checking on the Deadman's Foot fungus previously sighted,
was dismayed to see it had been roughly treated.
Delighted when I found another further along the path.
'Tis the season for this fungus. Will disappear once cold weather sets in.
White-breasted Nuthatch bug hunting.
Its long sharp bill perfect for this task.
Pauses, listening for insects.
And then it took flight!
Time for me to do the same. Drove over Hicks Road to enjoy its fall colors
