Some Dragonfly!
While taking photos of dragonflies at Horseshoe Lake,
THE BIGGEST dragonfly of them all suddenly appeared!
This Forestry Department helicopter was supporting a controlled burn a short distance away.
I watched the skilled pilot execute this precision maneuver 2-3 times in an hour or so.
Up, up and away!
Off it goes to release its huge bucket of water on the controlled burn.
Note:
When other volunteers shared that this method was used to extract water from Hidden Lake to combat the Loma fire, I responded that it was done for the greater good of the entire ecosystem and therefore, the possible loss of some endangered pond turtles was acceptable.
