September Song
Evening Stroll
Seeking a suitable location for yet another adult Mantid release.
Sprays of bright red rose hips framed the pathway.
Huge "Old Growth" Sycamore.
Dead central trunk with several thriving offspring.
New growth color. Last burst before leaves fall.
Valley Oak with scores of colorful wasp galls.
Gall shaped like a bi-color chocolate kiss.
Native "Coffeeberry" shrub with fruit.
This example mostly in shade, so its leaves are oversized to collect light.
Favorite view "off trail" with creek beyond.
Alamitos Creek hurrying towards the sea.
Can you hear it gurgling to itself?
Along the creek, a type of introduced mint bloomed, attracting insects.
Perfect place to release the mantid. It immediately made a kill!
"Havoc" loves to go exploring.
Curious find. An emerging "Deadman's Foot" fungus.
